Prep time: 20 mins | Cook time: 25 mins | Servings: 6
Ingredients
- The Bread: 1 large loaf of Italian or French bread.
- The Meats:
- 1/2 lb ground beef or Italian sausage, browned and drained.
- 1/2 cup pepperoni slices.
- The Cheese: 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese.
- The Sauce: 1 cup marinara sauce (for dipping).
- The Topping: 3 tbsp melted butter, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tbsp dried Italian herbs.
Instructions
- Prep the Bread: Slice the loaf of bread crosswise at 1-inch intervals, being careful not to cut all the way through the bottom crust.
- Stuff the Layers: Gently pull back the slices and stuff each opening with a generous amount of cooked ground meat, several slices of pepperoni, and a handful of shredded mozzarella.
- Brush: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder and Italian herbs. Brush the mixture over the top and sides of the loaf, ensuring the herbs settle into the crevices.
- Bake: Wrap the loaf loosely in foil and bake at 375°F for 15 minutes.
- Crisp: Open the foil and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is a deep golden brown.
- Serve: Serve hot with individual ramekins of warm marinara sauce for dipping.
