Ingredients
- 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers (also called roselle)
- 1 liter (4 cups) water
- 2–4 tablespoons sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
- Ice cubes (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Boil the water
Bring the water to a rolling boil in a saucepan.
- Add the hibiscus
Turn off the heat and add the dried hibiscus flowers to the hot water.
- Steep
Cover and let steep for 15–20 minutes.
The longer it steeps, the darker and more intense the color and flavor.
- Strain
Strain out the flowers using a fine strainer.
- Sweeten
While the liquid is still warm, add sugar or honey and stir until dissolved.
- Add lemon (optional)
Stir in lemon juice if you want a slightly tangy taste.
- Cool
Let it cool completely, then refrigerate.
To Serve (Like in the Photo)
- Pour the concentrate into a glass
- Add ice if desired
- You can dilute with cold water or sparkling water, or drink it concentrated for a bold flavor
- The darker layer you see is natural hibiscus sediment, totally normal
